Puzzles (part 1)
- Opening the beginning door: There are two buttons. Two players must press each button at the same time to open it. If you are playing singleplayer, noclip may work if you are fast enough, but sometimes no matter how fast you can't do it on certain ones.
- Getting inside the first house: Use the crates to get inside at the second floor. A Combine command panel inside will help shut down the force field outside.
- Getting to the next force field area: You can't go through the car port yet. Metal bars, and Turrets are in the way. You have to try to get to the other side, and flip over the Turrets. The only way around is through a hill of Hopper Mines, be sure to use your gravity gun on them. Once the Turrets are flipped, grab the money inside, and move the metal bars so the buggy can come.
- Shutting down the next force field: You have to go through the house, but there are Manhacks inside, your Gravity Gun is your best bet into destroying them. Push the button inside to shut off the force field so the buggy can come.
- Lowering the bridge: This is a long tough puzzle, you need go inside the nearest house to the bridge, and use the elevator to get to the bridge controls which are underground, and it's full of Zombies down there. First you need to open the bridge control room doors by going through a hidden vent to get to the switch. There are two sides that players need to go through. Each side requires at least one player. The side that has a valve that is not behind a gate is first, so turn the valve, and the gate opens, but don't let go or it'll go down. Now the player on the other side needs to turn a valve that opens the gate on the first side, once the player goes through, they find themselves in the bridge control, they open the door for you, and you need to activate all three bridge controls. Watch out for Headcrabs, there are even some at vents above, and more Headcrabs can ambush you so be careful. Once you are done, head back to the surface, and cross the bridge. Remember, don't go in the water, LEECHES!
- Kill Strider: Killing the Strider is required to end the level. Use an RPG to destroy it. If there are no more rockets, and nobody can afford, that's the end of the level, but that is no more, the 1.35 update now added an SMG Grenade crate so players with SMGs can destroy the Strider, and now no more dead end (except if all players lose their lives).
Puzzles (part 2)
- Leave the outpost: To leave the outpost, two players must press the two buttons at the same time that are near the door.
- Opening the next tunnel: While you are at the tunnel area, there is a door that is sealed. A battery is required, you must find it at the area with the electric water. Don't bother swimming through the water unless you want to get shocked. 1-2 shocks could kill you. Once you find the battery, take it back to the sealed door to open it.
- Crane puzzle: This puzzle is the hardest puzzle in the series. Someone needs to be in the crane while another player is inside a boxcar, and the player in the crane must take the boxcar with the player in it to the area that the player needs to lower a ladder to get to the next area. REMEMBER: If you are in the crane, don't drop the boxcar on players, they'll die, or get injured bad.
- Destroy Gunship: You've killed a Gunship before, right? This shouldn't be so hard. Just careful of the Turrets, Hoppers, and Soldiers.
Tips
- Hidden all over the maps are piles of cash, which when picked up grant the player 15 points.
- Make sure to conserve your points so you can purchase required weapons, such as explosives vs. bullet-immune enemies.
- Don't forget about the ammo crate on the back of the jeep. It makes the smg1 a very cost-effective weapon for killing enemies.
- If you are completely out of explosive weaponry, you could backtrack to an earlier section of the map to find combine mines to fire at bullet-immune enemies.
- At the beginning of the second map, be sure to check out the house. There is an additional merchant inside selling discount stunsticks.
